Becoming

Like someone peeling an onion, the Lord reveals one layer of sin in my life at a time. He gently exposes my failings, my prejudice, and my pride. Then He invites me to repent . . . to move toward becoming what I was meant to be.

Ask Me to help you become more like Christ. Study His life, attitudes, and behavior. What needs to change in your life so you can be transformed into His likeness? Is there jealousy, anger, pride, or a bad habit that needs to go? When you recognize sin, are you willing to call it what it is and ask for My forgiveness? As My Spirit continues to work in your life, you’ll be transformed from the inside out.

There’s a cost to being a Christ-follower. My disciples ran into all kinds of trouble for doing the right things—and you will too. Don’t be surprised when you’re criticized, wrongfully accused, or ridiculed. Instead of fostering bitterness and hurt feelings, put on the mind of Christ. Forgive quickly and continue to set your heart on what I require: “to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). This doesn’t happen overnight. As you make a habit of right living, you will become what you were meant to be.

If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
