"Day 3: Don’t Fear The Wilderness"
Day 3: Don’t Fear the Wilderness
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT)
“The LORD says, ’I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.’” (Psalm 32:8, NLT)
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28, NLT)
There have been seasons in my life when discomfort felt like a sign that something was wrong. I questioned why certain opportunities did not work out, why relationships shifted, or why God seemed to lead me away from places that felt familiar and secure.
At the time, I did not understand that discomfort was part of God’s process.
Looking back, I realize that every uncomfortable season had a purpose. Like the Israelites, I had to learn that sometimes God leads us through the wilderness before He leads us into the promise.
In Exodus 13:17-18, after God delivered the Israelites from Egypt, He did not lead them by the shortest route. Instead, He led them through the wilderness.
From a human perspective, that path didn’t make sense. Yet God understood what His people needed. They were not ready for the battles they would face on the shorter path. The wilderness was not meant to harm them, it was meant to protect and prepare them.
I have found the same to be true in my own life.
As my faith has grown, I have come to recognize God allows discomfort to shape our character, deepen our trust, and prepare us for what lies ahead. If everything felt easy, we might never learn to depend fully on Him.
Whether through ministry, work, relationships, or personal growth, some of my greatest spiritual development happened during seasons I never would have chosen.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT) reminds us:
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”
Every season—even the difficult ones—serves a purpose in God’s plan.
It is during these times that we must remember the truth that God does not abandon us in seasons of stretching. He walks with us through them.
Psalm 32:8 (NLT) says:
“The LORD says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.’”
Even when I did not fully understand His plan, God faithfully directed my steps. The very discomfort I tried to escape became the place where my prayer life deepened and I learned to hear His voice more clearly.
Romans 8:28 (NLT) is a source of encouragement for us:
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”
Today, I no longer view stretching seasons the same way I once did. While they are never easy, I have learned that this is often where He is doing His deepest work.
If you are in a season that feels uncomfortable or uncertain, do not assume God has abandoned you. The wilderness may be the very place where He is preparing you for what comes next. Trust His process. One day you will look back and see that what felt like a detour may actually be God’s loving redirection.
Takeaway
The wilderness is not always a sign that God is absent. It is often the place where He is preparing you for His greater purposes ahead.
Prayer
Father, strengthen me in seasons of stretching. Help me trust Your process even when I do not understand it. Help me believe that You are using it for my growth and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
