"Day 2: Trusting God In Transition"
Day 2: Trusting God in Transition
“He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.” (John 15:2, NLT)
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6, NLT)
“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT)
After graduating from college, I had a very specific vision for how I thought my life would unfold. I imagined quickly securing the perfect job, getting married, having children, and living what many would consider the “American dream.” I assumed that if I worked hard and achieved my goals, life would unfold according to my plans and timeline.
But life looked very different from what I had imagined.
I did not immediately step into my ideal career. I did not begin building the family I once envisioned. Instead, I found myself in a season of waiting, confusion, and unanswered questions. Reality looked nothing like my expectations and I struggled to understand what God was doing.
Looking back, I can see that what felt like disappointment was actually divine redirection.
Instead of giving me the life I had planned, God invited me to something greater. He called me into ministry. He opened the door for me to become an author. Most importantly, He led me on a deeper journey of discovering who I am in Christ.
God showed me that His plans for my life extended far beyond my comfort or definition of success. He wanted to shape my character and use my life to encourage and strengthen His people.
My story reminds me of the disciples in Luke 5:1-7. After fishing all night and catching nothing, Jesus instructed them to cast their nets one more time. Their experience told them it would not work, but they obeyed anyway— and their obedience led to a miraculous outcome.
How often does God ask us to trust Him beyond what makes sense?
There are seasons when life feels delayed or unfruitful. Yet God often uses those times to teach us to trust His direction, even when it does not align with our expectations. What feels like a setback may actually be His way of positioning us for something greater.
John 15:2 (NLT) says:
“He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and He prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.”
God often prunes us before producing greater fruit through us. Pruning can be painful because it requires us to release our expectations, timelines, and even our dreams. Yet we must remember —pruning is not punishment, it is preparation.
Throughout my journey, I held tightly to the promise found in Philippians 1:6 (NLT):
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
If your life does not look the way you expected, do not lose heart. God’s delays are not always denials. Sometimes He lovingly redirects us because His plans are far greater than we could ever imagine. Trust that even when you cannot see the full picture, God is faithfully working behind the scenes for your good and His glory.
Takeaway
Even when plans change, remember that God’s purposes haven’t. What feels like delay or disruption may actually be preparation for the purpose He has already ordained for your life.
Prayer
Lord, help me trust You when life unfolds differently than I expected. Give me the faith to surrender my plans and embrace Your purpose. Remind me that even in seasons of waiting and transition, You are still working all things together for my good. In Jesus’ name, amen.
