How can I be motivated to share more?

There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?

Almost everyone has been taught since early childhood to share. Yet for many people it remains as hard as ever to give of their resources or themselves. Why? Because at the very core of sinful human nature is the desire to get, not give; to accumulate, not relinquish; to look out for yourself, not others. The Bible calls you to share many things—your resources, your faith, your love, your time, your talents, your money. In fact, most things are more enjoyable when you share them with others, and doing so benefits others far more than you may realize. The boy in John 6 shared his lunch with Jesus, who multiplied it to feed a hungry multitude. Five thousand people were blessed by this one selfless act.

Like this boy, you are called to share because God shares so generously with you. Sharing is an expression of your love for God, demonstrated in your love for others. As you share your special gifts and resources, you pass on God’s blessings. Those who generously share discover that the benefits of giving away are far greater than the temporary satisfaction of receiving.

Divine Promise

May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light.
