My Question for God

What are the right attitudes to have for effective service to God?

A Moment with God

Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Psalm 2:11

A joyful heart and reverent awe of God are required in order to serve him. Being a servant of God is not a dull obligation but a great privilege. Service should be done joyfully and with gratitude for the opportunity and ability to serve.

I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.

Psalm 101:6

A desire to please God and obey his Word are essential in order to serve him effectively. A good quality at work is a desire to please your boss and to act in accordance with company rules and fulfill your job description. Neglecting these responsibilities would lead to termination. A desire to please God and obey his commandments qualifies you for lifelong effective service for him.

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Matthew 6:24

In order to serve God effectively, you must be devoted to him. This involves sacrifice, and effective service comes at a cost. You must be willing to sacrifice some of your own comforts and desires in order to effectively reach out to those who need God most.

You have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

Galatians 5:13

Effective service requires a heart filled with genuine love for Christ and others. Serving God inevitably means serving others. If your heart is always focused on your own desires first, you will not be as effective at helping others. Genuine love means genuine selflessness and the self-discipline to put others first.

Divine Promise

Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
