What is the healing power of forgiveness?

Esau ran to meet [Jacob] and embraced him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. And they both wept.

Genesis 33:4

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”

Luke 23:34

Forgiveness is the pathway to freedom; it is both a decision and a process. Sometimes you must decide to forgive before you have feelings of mercy and a desire to offer forgiveness. When you forgive someone who has wronged you, you are freed from bitterness and resentment that can saturate your soul like toxic waste. And when someone forgives you, you are free from indebtedness to that person. As you release the hurt inflicted on you, you will be healed and free to grow beyond the pain. Is there someone you need to forgive so that you can move forward?
