Where do I get the desire to help others?

A Moment with God

The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

James 1:27

A caring spirit comes from the heart of God, whose very nature is to care for others. God plants the seeds of compassion and concern in the human heart, and when need arises or tragedy strikes, those seeds quickly grow to fruition. Anyone with a sense of compassion is ready and willing to help another in need. Call it love, concern, compassion, or care—it is your willingness to reach out, to provide for others in a time of need, to share with them, comfort them, and just be with them. God’s care for you is your model and inspiration for caring for others. As someone who bears God’s image, you have the capacity to be moved with great compassion for another. Your love for God and gratitude for his care for you should drive you to act on that compassion. Your desire to care for others will grow out of your desire to please God and reflect his caring nature.
