Why is it important to celebrate?

A Moment with God

On this day in early spring, in the month of Abib, you have been set free. You must celebrate this event. . . . You must explain to your children, “I am celebrating what the LORD did for me when I left Egypt.”

Exodus 13:4-5, 8

This festival will be a happy time of celebrating with your sons and daughters . . . to honor the LORD your God . . . for it is he who blesses you with bountiful harvests and gives you success in all your work.

Deuteronomy 16:14-15

Let us be glad and rejoice. . . . For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb.

Revelation 19:7

When you think of celebration, you might think of enjoying yourself and having a great time with others. You celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, victories, promotions, awards, special milestones, marriages, the birth of a new baby. But you also celebrate occasions such as the Lord’s Supper, baptism, and other solemn events. When you celebrate, you take time out from your ordinary routine to observe and honor an event that is notable, special, and important to you. God gives you the best reason to celebrate because he has rescued you from the consequences of sin and shown you the way to heaven. Celebration is a powerful way to increase hope because it takes your focus off your troubles and puts it on God’s blessings and on God himself. Those who love him have the most to celebrate!

Divine Promise
