Truth

Truth

MY QUESTIONS for GOD

What is truth? Is anything really true anymore?

A MOMENT with GOD

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1

For you are God, O Sovereign Lord. Your words are truth.

2 Samuel 7:28

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

2 Timothy 3:16

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

Psalm 19:7

Jesus responded, “. . . I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

John 18:37

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6

Few things impact our daily lives as much as the concept of truth. First, there’s “telling the truth.” We gravitate toward those who tell the truth because they are honest and can be trusted. Without trust, relationships fall apart. We have to be truthful if we want relationships to work, companies to work, and government to work. Second, there’s absolute truth. This includes the fundamental principles of nature, science, and human behavior that have been evident since the beginning of time. For example, the truth (or law) of gravity is that when you drop an object, it will fall. A truth of mathematics is that two plus two equals four. A truth of biology is that the right amounts of hydrogen and oxygen atoms make water molecules. A truth about life in general is that every person enters this world as a baby and someday exits this world through death. Only a fool would argue that these truths aren’t valid. There is nothing any person can do to change these fundamental truths about how the world works. The Bible claims there is a third kind of truth: spiritual truth. This includes moral and supernatural principles about human relationships with God and others that are absolute and constant despite our feelings and beliefs to the contrary. Human beings have always wanted to determine this kind of truth for themselves or to believe it doesn’t exist at all. While this kind of truth may be more difficult to accept and discover, it is the one that will most affect the way you live here on earth as well as your eternal destiny. Just as you can’t reject the truth about gravity and expect to function well in this world, so you can’t reject the truth about God and how he has determined life should work and expect your future to turn out the way you want it to. It’s wise to discover and study this truth because it so completely impacts the life of every human being. You are free to ignore truth if you choose, but you do so at your own risk, both now and for eternity.
