How do I develop intimacy with God?

“When that day comes,” says the Lord, “you will call me ‘my husband’ instead of ‘my master.’ . . . I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as the Lord.”

God created you for intimacy; he built into you a longing for relationship. The risks of being vulnerable are worth the rewards. When two people have intimacy, they are able to communicate heart to heart, mind to mind, soul to soul. Relational intimacy allows you to openly share all of your burdens, fears, and joys with someone else. Physical intimacy, which is reserved for marriage alone, allows a man and a woman to reach new heights of vulnerability and to communicate at the most profound level. The greatest intimacy of all is intimacy with God, which allows you to understand the very heart of God. As you do, all other intimacy in your relationships takes on new and even greater meaning. God is the source of love, and he created you with the ability to love. Therefore, no one knows more about love than God does. Intimacy with God means experiencing his love to the fullest and returning that love to him. The more you allow God to share with you his intimate love, the more you will share his love with others and enjoy more intimate relationships.
