MY QUESTION for GOD
What is the role of parents in their children’s spiritual development?
A MOMENT with GOD
The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
A famous professional athlete once said, “I am not a role model; parents are role models.” That sports star, however misguided in his underestimation of his own influence, was right about parents. Colloquial wisdom says that spiritual values and character are caught as much as taught. Parents who drop their children off at Sunday school without going to church themselves are as hypocritical as those who light up a cigarette while telling their children not to smoke. The Bible teaches that parents bear the fundamental responsibility for spiritual education of children, and that spiritual values are most effectively taught when they are integrated into the fabric of daily family life. What would a child watching your life conclude about the importance of a relationship with God? As you strive to be a good example, remember God first thing in the morning, and fall asleep with him on your mind. Remember God as the source of hope when you think you’ve lost all hope. Remember God with a thankful heart when you have plenty, for you will need him when you have little. Meditate on God and his great love for you. Weave him into the fabric of your life so your children and grandchildren will be trained from their earliest days to love God with grateful hearts.
DIVINE CHALLENGE
Take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong. Hebrews 12:12-13
