How do I know if my desires are right or wrong?

A MOMENT with GOD

One day when Samson was in Timnah, one of the Philistine women caught his eye. When he returned home, he told his father and mother, “A young Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me.” His father and mother objected. “Isn’t there even one woman in our tribe or among all the Israelites you could marry?” they asked. “Why must you go to the pagan Philistines to find a wife?” But Samson told his father, “Get her for me! She looks good to me.”

Judges 14:1-3

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:8

Sinful desires are very powerful because they are selfish. The desire to get what you want is so strong that it can keep you from thinking straight. Samson saw a beautiful woman and became consumed with having her. It was as if his brain froze up; he didn’t even think about all the problems that would come from the relationship. Like Samson, you can become so obsessed with what you want that you forget to ask God if it is what he wants. Make sure that the object of your desire is consistent with God’s Word, good for you, and not harmful to others.

DIVINE CHALLENGE

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
