How do I find meaning in my work?

A MOMENT with GOD

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Ephesians 6:6-7

Work is part of God’s plan for your life, and your work matters to God. When you work diligently, you experience many benefits that you can pass on to others. At its best, your work honors God and brings meaning and joy to your life. You should emulate the qualities found in God’s work, such as excellence, concern for the well-being of others, purpose, beauty, and service. When you have the perspective that you are actually working for God, you can focus less on the task at hand and more on your motives—to help people know God. The excitement and interest that come from having this perspective are not primarily from the work but from the One for whom you work. God promises these rewards for faithful work, regardless of the job: You are a more credible witness to nonbelievers, and your needs are met without having to depend on others financially. There is immense dignity in all honest human labor, for your work is an opportunity to serve God and others. Christians are needed in all kinds of vocations. Whatever your job, remember that God has placed you there for a reason. Do your work to the best of your ability as a service to God and others until God opens a door of opportunity for you to move on.

DIVINE PROMISE

WORK WILLINGLY AT WHATEVER YOU DO, AS THOUGH YOU WERE WORKING FOR THE LORD RATHER THAN FOR PEOPLE. REMEMBER THAT THE LORD WILL GIVE YOU AN INHERITANCE AS YOUR REWARD, AND THAT THE MASTER YOU ARE SERVING IS CHRIST.   Colossians 3:23-24
