Why is it hard to worship?

A MOMENT with GOD

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back? For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Romans 11:33-36

This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place? My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.”

Isaiah 66:1-2

It has been said that worship is offering extravagant devotion to someone or something. By that definition, every human being worships something. What or who we worship defines the value and purpose of our lives. When we worship God with extravagant devotion, we acknowledge his power and glory, and we experience his presence through the Holy Spirit. Our worship defines and expresses our relationship to God.

It may be hard for leaders to worship because leaders are used to calling the shots, being in charge, having others “worship” them, in the sense that others give them their attention and devotion. As leaders get used to telling others what to do, it becomes more difficult for them to let God tell them what to do. But never forget that one of the great purposes of worship is to help you see the holiness of God so you can better understand the sinfulness in your own heart. Only then can you draw closer to God, as you confess your sinfulness and experience his grace and forgiveness. Worship, then, is recognizing who God is, and who you are in relation to him. You realize how great is the gulf between you and God, you understand how unworthy you are, and you know how important it is to have your heart prepared to fellowship with him. Take a divine moment and praise God whenever you see his wisdom, power, direction, care, and love in your life. Then worship will become a way of life.

DIVINE PROMISE

THEREFORE, GOD ELEVATED HIM TO THE PLACE OF HIGHEST HONOR AND GAVE HIM THE NAME ABOVE ALL OTHER NAMES, THAT AT THE NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH AND UNDER THE EARTH, AND EVERY TONGUE CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER.
