Is it a sin to doubt God?

When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Psalm 94:19

John the Baptist, who was in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”

Matthew 11:2-3

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed [Peter]. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

Matthew 14:31

David, John the Baptist, Peter—all of them, along with many other biblical leaders, struggled with doubts about God and God’s ability or desire to help them. This doesn’t mean they had less faith, but their faith was challenged. God doesn’t mind if you doubt him as long as you seek answers from him in the midst of your doubt. Doubt can become sin if it leads you away from God and into skepticism, cynicism, or hard-heartedness. But doubt can be beneficial when your honest searching leads you to a better understanding of God and deepens your faith in him. When you have moments of doubt, it’s probably because you are in new territory. Allow your doubts to move you closer to God, not farther away from him.
