How can I deal with distractions?

A MOMENT with GOD

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.

Matthew 19:13-15

As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Mark 10:17

Distractions bombarded Jesus all the time. But he didn’t see them as interruptions; he saw them as opportunities to save the lost or help someone in need. When someone needs your help, a distraction can become a divine moment to show that person the love and care of God. Sometimes God interrupts you for a good reason. Don’t miss the opportunity to serve the people he brings to you for help.

The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” And they shared the word of the Lord with him.

Acts 16:29-32

Most people would look at a jail sentence as a definite distraction from serving God. Not Paul and Silas! Their situation didn’t stop them from their mission. Their ministry had taken them all over the ancient world, but it became confined to a small room with a very small audience. God seemed to be just fine with that. Instead of resisting the distraction, Paul and Silas embraced it. Sometimes a distraction seems as restricting as a jail cell. When that happens, maybe God wants you to focus on what and who is right in front of you. The distraction may be a call from God to minister to new people in a new way.
