Discernment
Discernment
MY QUESTION for GOD
How can I learn discernment?
A MOMENT with GOD
I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.
Philippians 1:10
You need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
Hebrews 5:12-14
Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart.
Psalm 119:34
Discernment involves disciplining your conscience, mind, senses, and body to distinguish between right and wrong. The Bible tells us that discernment is necessary for spiritual maturity, and that recognizing the difference between right and wrong is a developed skill. When you grow and mature in your faith, you learn to recognize temptation before it overwhelms you. You also learn to recognize truth from falsehood and distinguish God’s voice from other voices. Knowing Scripture helps you discern when someone is using a Bible verse incorrectly. When you practice discernment and train yourself to detect right from wrong, you can avoid the pitfalls that so many leaders fall into. Your living and leading are better because you are following God’s ways.
DIVINE PROMISE
TUNE YOUR EARS TO WISDOM, AND CONCENTRATE ON UNDERSTANDING. CRY OUT FOR INSIGHT, AND ASK FOR UNDERSTANDING. SEARCH FOR THEM AS YOU WOULD FOR SILVER; SEEK THEM LIKE HIDDEN TREASURES. THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO FEAR THE LORD, AND YOU WILL GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. FOR THE LORD GRANTS WISDOM! FROM HIS MOUTH COME KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. Proverbs 2:2-6
