How should I handle disagreements?

A MOMENT with GOD

After some time Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord, to see how the new believers are doing.” Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul disagreed strongly. . . . Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord’s gracious care.

Acts 15:36-40

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

Matthew 5:9

Jesus clearly stated that we should make every effort to resolve conflicts with one another. When disagreements arise, try to understand how the other person came to his or her position, and determine what views or goals you have in common. If you each have the same goal, see if you can both compromise some things in order to accomplish it. Sometimes you may have to agree to disagree. Do so with respect and love, agreeing to honor God even in your disagreement. God will then use your efforts for good. Paul and Barnabas had such a sharp disagreement that they decided to separate, but God used this separation to double their efforts by creating two strong missionary teams. God can still work out his will through disagreements, even when you can’t see a solution.

DON’T GET INVOLVED IN FOOLISH, IGNORANT ARGUMENTS THAT ONLY START FIGHTS. A SERVANT OF THE LORD MUST NOT QUARREL BUT MUST BE KIND TO EVERYONE.   2 Timothy 2:23-24
