Why should leaders have courage?

A MOMENT with GOD

Then the Lord commissioned Joshua son of Nun with these words: “Be strong and courageous, for you must bring the people of Israel into the land I swore to give them. I will be with you.”

Hebrews 3:6

Courage is the ability to act on what you know is right and good, to dare to do what must be done, often in the face of danger and threats. Fear paralyzes, but courage mobilizes. Courage does not conquer fear; it simply renders fear ineffective. It gives you the confident assurance that you can succeed. Christian leaders recognize the importance of motivating people to move forward with courage to accomplish good for God and his kingdom. If you gain ground, Satan and his forces lose ground. When you recognize that you have the extra resource of God’s promised help in time of need, you should have the courage to face any situation that comes your way. Sometimes the courageous thing to do is run, if it means avoiding sin or bringing about the greatest good (see Genesis 39:6-12). The Bible speaks of having courage to stand firm against evil, to remain strong in the faith, to resist temptation, and to do the right thing. When you have the courage to teach others to rely on God, the more courageous they will become, and the more everyone will see God acting on behalf of his people.
