Backsliding
Backsliding
MY QUESTION for GOD
What do I do when I’ve fallen away from God?
A MOMENT with GOD
Now this is what the Lord says to the family of Israel: “Come back to me and live!”
Amos 5:4
Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Romans 3:23-24
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
Psalm 32:5
Every day you have a choice to make when it comes to your relationship with God. You can step toward him or step away from him. It takes conscious effort to step toward him; it takes no effort to step away, for your sinful nature is always pulling you in the wrong direction. As a leader, it’s easy to get so absorbed with keeping others on track that you neglect to keep yourself on track. Suddenly you realize you are further from God than you should be. That is a critical moment: You can either deny the problem and keep going, or you can recognize the problem and turn around. Backsliding, by definition, is slipping away from God. On the other hand, confession is reaching out to God so he can pull you in his direction. When you confess, you acknowledge that your sin has separated you from God. God forgives you and brings you back to him. Confess your inadequacies to God each day; he will forgive you and keep you close to him.
DIVINE PROMISE
IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS TO HIM, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL WICKEDNESS.
1 John 1:9
