Deeper Life #300
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
—John 1:37
JESUS CALLED HIS DISCIPLES TO follow Him, and they did so. Was there any sacrifice in this? Not a bit. It would have been harder to stay where they were. The fascination of our Lord Jesus Christ was on these men, and their natural temperaments fitted the call. So when Jesus said, “Follow Me,” they left all and followed Him.
There are scores of people today with that kind of relationship to Christ. They have a natural yen for the higher life; and when Jesus is presented, they say, “Yes, Lord, we will go wherever you want us to go.” A sacrifice? None whatever! A lot of people simply like the thrill of walking with Jesus.
The real test of discipleship is not so much a fast start as a faithful ongoing.
Prayer Thought: Lord, I know that faithfulness is the characteristic of a true disciple. With Your help and by Your grace, I will be faithful to You.
