Deeper Life #299

And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

—Mark 1:22

THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE TWELVE disciples to Jesus Christ was unique; we cannot repeat anything like it in our generation. Yet, aspects of their discipleship throw a wonderful light on the subject of our own discipleship today.

For the first three years, the disciples of our Lord were attracted to Him by natural affinity. Thousands of people today are similarly attracted by the Lord Jesus Christ; but they will find a marvelous contrast to the unsatisfactory state of their unspiritual lives if they will study carefully the disciples of Jesus.

Jesus’ disciples were not perfect, but they had certain characteristics that are worthy of our study. We shall consider their discipleship over the next several days.

Prayer Thought: Lord Jesus, Your disciples followed You sacrificially. It is my desire to be like them.
