For Controlling Your Thoughts

For Controlling Your Thoughts

DID YOU KNOW THAT NEARLY HALF OF U.S. DOCTORS—and almost all U.K. physicians—prescribe fake meds? Though the ethics are questionable, placebos help many patients feel better. The mere thought of treatment can relieve pain, insomnia, and nausea. Our thoughts are that powerful! That’s why Proverbs 4:23 forewarns, “Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life” (NCV).

Prayer is an effective way to control our thoughts. As prayer warriors, we’re not passive bystanders who let in whatever comes our way. Instead, we’re spiritual gatekeepers who are commissioned to keep watch over what we think. When Jesus was in the wilderness, Satan tried to tempt him with ungodly ideas. But each time, Jesus resisted (Matthew 4:1-11).

In our prayer lives, we have the authority to accept, reject, welcome, or rebuke every thought—and hold it captive (2 Corinthians 10:5). This is important because our thoughts define who we are (Proverbs 23:7, NASB). Therefore, my sister, carefully keep watch over what enters (and remains) in your mind.

STRENGTH IN THE WORD

May all my thoughts be pleasing to him.

Psalm 104:34

TODAY I DECLARE

I take control and authority over my mind.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

I take hold of the authority you’ve given me, and I reject every ungodly idea. I rebuke the hidden thoughts of sin and negativity, and I reject the thoughts of insecurity and self-doubt. Please fix my imagination on what’s “true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely” (Philippians 4:8). Renew my mind and help me meditate on more admirable things.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
