Beautiful Word Devotional #275

“Give, and it will be given to you.”

Luke 6:38

Whenever you give, Jesus knows that you will receive far more in return. But receiving in kind—I’ll give for the sole reason that I’ll get something back—is not a Christlike motivation to give. God’s design is about grace, about giving even when the recipient doesn’t deserve it and can’t repay it, about giving with no concern about the cost to yourself or about how your kindness might benefit you.

Still, something happens to us when we give to people in need in tangible, genuinely helpful ways. Consider what unique opportunities you have today to be a blessing to someone. You can pray for that friend who is sick. You can appreciate the clerk at the register. You can make an amazing meal for your friends. You yourself may not receive health, affirming words, or a feast because you do one of these things, but your heart will be fuller, and life will be richer.

Lord, please open my eyes to the needs of others today and free me to give generously, amen.
