Beautiful Word Devotional #276

Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.

Proverbs 20:4

If you were asked to describe a godly person, would industrious be on your list?

Industriousness is actually an important trait of a godly person. When we choose to work hard, we glorify God by using the skills and abilities as well as the opportunity that he has given us. Our hard work will mean reaping a good harvest when the time comes, but it may also reap a harvest for God’s kingdom. Why? Because when people ask why you work so hard, you may be able to explain that you are working to honor God. This perspective can compel us to work harder because we realize we are part of the bigger picture of shining God’s light in this dark world.

Yes, preparing soil, planting seed, fertilizing, watering—all these tasks take time and call for industriousness. So we work hard and wait patiently for the harvest of souls that will come because God blessed our efforts in the workplace.

Lord, I want to work hard at whatever task you call me to, for the good of my employer and for your glory, amen.
