Beautiful Word Devotional #263

But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Genesis 19:26

Lot’s wife was warned! The angel’s instructions were clear: don’t turn and look back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, at God’s judgment of those corrupt cities. But something compelled her to turn. Was it hard to leave where she had been so comfortable? Was she worried about friends or loved ones? Did she need closure of some kind? Maybe she was just curious, but no one else looked back. Whatever her reasons were, this woman’s choice to disobey had dire consequences. It cost her, her life.

In the New Testament, Jesus issued the same warning illustrated by Lot’s wife: “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). We can’t look back and move forward at the same time. We will veer off the path Jesus has for us. We will plow a crooked row.

So look forward as you move ahead on the path your faithful God has called you to.

Lord, I want to move forward, trusting you for what’s next, amen.
