The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?

Psalm 27:1

Many of us spend time worrying what others think about us and even reorienting our lives in order to make others happy with us. The problem is, living to please others can be exhausting. Furthermore, we really can’t control what other people think about us anyway.

The truth is, what others think of you doesn’t matter as much as what God thinks of you. God is on your side, and he is your Defender. As this psalm says, God is your light—even if you feel shrouded in darkness. He is your salvation—it’s not up to you to save yourself. And he is your Stronghold—a very real fortress.

Because of these important truths, you no longer need to live in fear of other people’s opinions. You can instead walk through life in holy confidence that God is always with you despite what others say and no matter how your reputation has been tarnished. God will always hold you, protect you, and shield you.

Lord, instead of worrying about what others think, help me to realize that if I have your love—and I do—I have all I need in this life, amen.
