Beautiful Word Devotional #17

“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Death can be terrifying. Many people spend their lives dreading, fearing, or trying to ignore this inevitability. Yet none of us can escape death.

Thankfully, there is more to the story than our life and inevitable death. After all, there is a dash that will be inserted between the day we’re born and the day we die. That dash represents the life we lead on this earth.

Do you truly believe the often-quoted John 3:16? God gave you an amazing gift: his Son, Jesus. And if you spend the dash—that is, the years of your life—believing, trusting in, and following him or if—like the thief on the cross—you put your belief in Jesus in your last moments (see Luke 23:40–43), you will experience eternal life.

Because of Jesus, you can face death only with confidence, and that means you can live this life with peace and joy. What a gift!

Lord, thank you for the precious gifts of love, joy, peace, and eternal life with you, amen.
