The Peace of Christmas, Part 3

The great theologian C. S. Lewis writes in his classic Mere Christianity, “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.”^a As we have been studying Isaiah 9:6-7, we have seen that peace is found in a relationship with the Prince of Peace and that it is ever increasing and always available. Today we will discover that it will fully be realized in the culmination of his Kingdom.

Isaiah 9:7 states, “He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!”

Notice the first sentence of this verse. The word eternity reminds us that God rules and reigns now and will rule and reign forevermore. The everlasting peace he gives leads to overflowing hope in our lives. Romans 15:13 states, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Believe, be filled, and overflow with hope, because the peace of Christmas is everlasting. May the peace of Christ be yours in abundance!
