Knute Rockne, legendary head football coach of the University of Notre Dame, once said, “Football is a game played with arms, legs, and shoulders, but mostly from the neck up.” Coach Rockne was referring to how football is a physical game but the advantage goes to those who use their minds by developing and executing a game plan. No quality coach goes into a game without a good plan and preparation.

My wife always has a game plan when she goes shopping. I am amazed at her ability to navigate the mall. It’s as if she has a sixth sense for scoping sales, beating the crowd, and finding a parking spot. As you go out Christmas shopping, you might want to prepare with a game plan.

Scripture is God’s game plan for our lives. It helps us understand what is in bounds and what is out of bounds. It helps us navigate relationships, gives wisdom for finances, and directs us as parents. The Bible gives us a picture of victory for our lives by inviting us to a personal relationship with God’s Son. Scripture enables us to renew our minds so that we can know where to set our feet and how to have vision for our lives.

Scripture also tells us about the depth of impact it has on our lives. Hebrews 4:12 states, “The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” God’s Word helps us from the neck up and through every part of our lives so that we can know how to honor him.
