Saying Thanks
Saying Thanks
What are you thankful for today? I am thankful for John Pickul. John is in his seventies, but you wouldn’t know it. No, John is much younger than his age.
Why is he so young? First, John has a joyful spirit and loves to get as much out of life as possible. Second, John is cool. You see, John drives the bus for our middle school students for their “Middle School Madness” youth ministry outings. Not only does John drive the bus, but he also dresses in all black and plays laser tag with the kids. We were tossing around things that we were thankful for in our staff meeting, and this awesome report about John Pickul stood out to me.
What stands out to you for which you are thankful? When you stop and take inventory of the things you can be grateful for, your ability to be content goes way up. Additionally, your desire to complain goes way down. You see, thanksgiving is an antidote to dissatisfaction, discouragement, and despair.
Are you thankful? If so, does it show? I think John is thankful for his health; for his wife, Iola; for his family; for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; and for his ability to enjoy so much of this life. When you are around a guy like John, you can’t help but be thankful as well.
Psalm 100:4-5 states, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” For what are you thankful? Let the Lord know through a prayer of thanksgiving.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
