How Should I Ask?

How Should I Ask?

The Jump Rope for Heart annual school fund-raiser has been around for many years. Benefiting the American Heart Association, the event gives schoolkids an opportunity to raise money, raise awareness, and raise their fitness level when they participate by jumping rope at their schools.

When my daughter, Carson, came home with one of the forms, she showed me some of the “Pups,” little puppy figurines that she would personally receive for different levels of money raised. Since I had to take her to the church for her piano lesson, I decided to let her loose on the office.

While going up the stairs, I asked her, “What are you going to say? How will you ask for the money?” She said, “I don’t know. How should I ask?”

I gave her some pointers, suggested a few things, and then said, “Okay, go ahead. Go ask Ms. Becca.” Carson then responded, “I want to think about it first.” A few minutes later, she was off.

After her first request, she came back with a ten-dollar bill from Ms. Becca. Then she went on to Ms. Jennifer and got a twenty-five-dollar check. The more success she had, the more emboldened requests she made.

Our prayer lives are that way as well. Sometimes we are hesitant at first to say anything to God. We don’t know what we will say or how we will say it. After thinking about it, we make our requests known to him. After we see him answer, it picks us up, and we ask again and again and again.

Psalm 34:8 states, “Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” Remember this verse when you go to him to make your request.

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Psalm 34:8
