Greater Than the Stock Exchange

I love a good roller coaster, and as a kid I would often go down to our local Six Flags theme park, AstroWorld, with a season pass. My brother Troy and I, along with our friends Brad, Ted, and Rick, would ride all the rides late into the evening.

One of my favorite rides was also one of the quickest—Greezed Lightnin’. This roller coaster launched into a 360-degree loop, taking you all the way upside down and around. Coming out of the loop, it then rose up the track to a point where the coaster was nearly perpendicular to the ground. It would then begin to go backwards, back through the loop, and down the track going seventy or eighty miles per hour until the coaster would climb backward up the track, almost perpendicular again. When the back of the cars topped out at the end of the track, you were then facing straight down. It would swing through and come back to the starting point. This ride was the most fun when the park was empty and we didn’t have to get off to ride it again.

The stock exchange and our various investments can often feel like a roller-coaster ride with all of its ups and downs. Yet we are drawn to it in order to financially advance in life. There is a greater exchange I want to ask you to consider—wisdom. Wisdom is an intentional exchange, but its returns are much more stable than the ups and downs of the stock market.

Proverbs 8:10-11 says, “Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.” To really advance in life, choose the best exchange, because possessing the wisdom of God will help you identify life’s true riches.
