All In
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an outstanding organization and a great way to engage with athletes of faith. Former Baylor University quarterback Bryce Petty was interviewed for FCA Magazine about his time at Baylor. Petty was asked, “In the game of football, what’s it mean to go All In?”
Petty replied, “For me, I want to be the best in the nation on every play—whether that’s a great handoff, a great pass, or being a good communicator on the field. When we compete like that on the field, it carries over to what we do off of it, too.”a
Are you all in? Dr. Kevin Elko, in his Monday Morning Cup of Inspiration, admonishes his listeners to “be where your feet are.” Because of the distractions of this digital age, it is easy to be somewhere else. The more we allow ourselves to be somewhere else, the more apt we are to disappoint those we love. There are so many distractions, challenges, and demands for our attention that it is hard to be all in on every play.
To be our best—as a parent, spouse, student, boss, or employee, we would learn well to focus on every play. Colossians 3:17 states, “Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” I don’t always remember that I am a representative of the Lord. Being my best begins with being where my feet are and serving those around me like Jesus serves me.
Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
