Getting An Adjustment
Getting an Adjustment
I have a great chiropractor. Dr. Eric Tondera attends my church, and our families have been friends for years. When I met Eric nineteen years ago, we were playing in a young-marrieds softball league. I had just aggravated my back, and during our at bat, he told me to lie on the ground so that he could stretch my hamstrings. Since that time nearly two decades ago, I have had to see Eric for a few more adjustments to my lower back.
While writing the final draft of this book, I found my back hurting from sitting too long. It got so bad that when I got up in the middle of the night, my lower back locked up on both sides, and the pain drove me to my knees. After taking some ibuprofen and icing my back for a few hours, I went to see Dr. Tondera for an adjustment and got even more relief. The following day there was a little stiffness, but all the pain was resolved.
When a chiropractor adjusts you, he manipulates your joints with great strength and power. The adjustment isn’t pleasant, but it brings great relief. When the chiropractor pops your neck, it can really set you free from pain. But you have to trust him to properly adjust your neck.
Not only is my chiropractor my doctor, but he is also my friend. He is honest with me about my weight and the causes of my pain, as a good doctor and friend should be. Proverbs 27:6 states, “Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.” The New International Version says that the wounds of a friend can be “trusted.” If your friend speaks truth to you, it is for a needed adjustment that is for your good. Embrace the painful words, and get your life back in alignment, because your friend is only trying to spare you from painful days ahead.
Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.
