Better Than the Big Game

In 2014, before the Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, several members of the team sat down with a Seattle pastor who asked them about their faith in Jesus Christ. Rocky Seto, one of the coaching staff, replied, “If we ever were to win the Super Bowl, we’d be able to tell everyone that Jesus is still better. Because as much as we worship this thing called a ring and a championship, Jesus is way better still.”

As you know, the Seahawks won in 2014, but in 2015 they tasted that bitter, final-moment defeat. Loss is painful, no matter what. But I am confident that those players and coaches who have their trust in Christ were able to wake up the next morning and say, “Jesus is better still.”

The Bible testifies to the greatness of Jesus Christ and shows us that nothing can compare to him. Hebrews 1:3-4 says, “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.”

Do you declare the greatness of Jesus Christ in both victory and loss? Do you have a foundation that helps you keep perspective when you win in the workplace? When something you have worked for falls through, do you still cling to the greatness of Jesus Christ? No matter what you experience, I hope that you can say with confidence, “Jesus is better still.”
