Every Part of Our Lives

Former Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty grew in his faith while at Baylor University. In a devotional for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes publication, FCA Magazine, Petty recalls that his friend Chris Wommack was the one who helped him learn how to integrate his faith into the sport he loves. Chris helped him learn to go “all in” for Christ. Petty says, “Chris dared me to take that a step further—or several steps further—and literally pray before each snap.”^a

Petty says, “If you’ve ever seen how fast our no-huddle offense operates at Baylor, that probably sounds completely nuts. But I really think it illustrates how God works in our lives. He wants every part of us.” Petty then shares that sometimes his prayers were simply, “All right, God, here we go.”^b

Is your faith integrated into every part of your life? Allowing the Lord to have access and inform your work is a big struggle for guys. But remember, you are not defined by what you do but by who you are. Allowing the Lord to work in your life to develop and shape you will only bear fruit in what you do. Before you make decisions at work that will affect many, before you make that next sales call, before you operate on your patient, ask for the Lord’s help and allow him to be involved in what you do.

First Thessalonians 5:17-18 states, “Never stop praying . . . for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” Sometimes, like Petty, it’s a quick, simple prayer.
