An Honest Admission

In his book Racing to Win, Hall of Fame football coach Joe Gibbs talks about his quest to get his first head coaching job. After a random conversation with a stranger in an Arkansas airport that was too coincidental to be coincidence, he writes, “I thought about how I had been trying to manage my own career, calling my own shots and trying to make things happen. My quest for a head coaching job had consumed me, affecting my relationships and every decision I made. Even though I was a Christian, God was not in charge of my life. I was.”^a

What an honest admission! Have you ever been there? Maybe you are there today. It is easy to take Christ as your Savior but not surrender all of the areas of your life to his leadership. Every one of us will have to wrestle with this temptation at one time or another. If you are wrestling with it now, I want you to see a promise of God about his leadership for your life. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

He promises to show you which path you should take! I want to encourage you to put your trust in God. When Coach Gibbs did this, something happened. Gibbs states, “An overwhelming peace washed over me.”^b

Friend, when you trust the Lord, peace comes. Don’t wait another day.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
