Just Take Another Step

Just Take Another Step

Have you ever watched an Ironman competition? Maybe you have participated in one. These extreme races involve a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon run of 26.2 miles. My brother Troy did an Ironman, and finishing was the realization of a big goal in his life. I have known a few other guys who have done this race as well. It is incredible to see the endurance of these athletes. I wonder at what point in that race they thought and even how frequently they had to say to themselves, “Just take another step.”

I was once out on a run during a vacation. I had taken a break from running for a week or so because of injury. Now I was running in a different climate with a strong headwind, and I quickly came to the point of telling myself, “Just take another step.”

You may be in a season that feels like running a marathon, or even competing in an Ironman race, and you are ready to throw in the towel. It may be your job, a struggle with your children, or a deep wound in your marriage. There is a strong headwind in your face, you are coming off an injury, and the temperature is on the rise. Friend, I want to encourage you to take another step.

Romans 5:3-4 states, “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.” In the sufferings of this trial, if you keep going, you will see endurance develop that will lead to hope. But remember, to get that hope, you have to take another step today.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
