A Wake-Up Call

On November 13, 2015, radical Islamic terrorists unleashed an attack on the city of Paris that killed more than 130 people. From attacking a theater where a heavy metal band was performing, to setting off three explosions outside a soccer stadium, to rolling up to an intersection bordered by two outdoor cafés and opening fire on those simply enjoying a cup of coffee, these Islamic State pawns executed an orchestrated plan to further their agenda of jihad. This same city had experienced an attack on the newspaper Charlie Hebdo just eleven months before, and the French government had been watching some five thousand suspected Islamic extremists living within France.

Our world has changed drastically since 9/11, and the questions we must ask individually and collectively are, Are we learning anything from these moments that should inform our way? Is our government doing all it can to protect us? What are our responsibilities as citizens to protect ourselves and watch over our neighbors?

Proverbs 1:32-33 states, “Simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency. But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.” Don’t be lulled to sleep. Complacency destroys careers, families, communities, and nations. Stay alert and vigilant, because the enemy is real and he seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. Protect your family, your neighbors, and your community by turning to the wisdom of God to guard and guide your way!
