An Ox To The Slaughter
An Ox to the Slaughter
My oldest son, Brady, loves watching the Outdoor Channel. We live in the heart of the fourth largest city in the United States, and our street empties onto the inner loop freeway feeder. Our neighborhood is a far cry from the country. But Brady loves camouflage. He has a camouflage Bible, phone case, and hoodie. He wears boots whenever he has an opportunity to, and he can’t wait for his next chance to get out of the city. He dreams of opportunities to hunt deer, hog, quail, and dove. During Brady’s fifteenth birthday weekend, we went to a friend’s ranch in south Texas and hunted his ten thousand acres. Brady killed a bobcat and a coyote. What a treat that was!
Just as a hunter lays a trap for his prey, the adulteress lays a trap for a man. You see, the Bible describes the adulteress as one lying in wait for those who lack judgment. With seductive words, the adulteress pleads for men to drink deep of love. The problem, though, is that love isn’t present, only ruin.
Proverbs 7:22-23 states, “He followed her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter. He was like a stag caught in a trap, awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart. He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life.”
My friend, don’t ruin your life. Deny the adulteress, and flee her presence.
He followed her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter. He was like a stag caught in a trap, awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart. He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life.
