Values

values - How can I maintain godly values in today’s world?

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.

Matthew 6:24

Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Luke 12:34

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Proverbs 4:23

EVERYONE HAS VALUES, good or bad, and our actions show what they are. John Ortberg states, “We will always take the most care of that which we value most deeply.” Check your heart by asking yourself, How do I spend most of my free time? Where do I spend my money? What is consuming my thoughts? What is the first thing I think of when I wake up or the last thing I think about before I go to bed? Your answers to these questions will show what you value most. God knows the world is vying for your attention, and that is why he calls you to guard the affections of your heart so closely. If you find your values slowly shifting away, ask God to reorient your heart back to him. Move closer to God by spending a little more time with him today, choosing to obey him down to the smallest decisions. Strive to love and serve others. Over time, you will notice your values change to better reflect the character of God.
