JESUS OFTEN WITHDREW from crowds and busyness in order to be with his Father. If Jesus thought it essential to unplug, metaphorically speaking, how much more intentional ought we to be about unplugging in an age of mass communication and technology? We live with constant interruptions, and as a result, we have become distracted. We’re poor listeners, and we’ve lost our ability to connect deeply with others. Take time to assess your technology use and the way it impacts your relationships. How can you detach from routine distractions, especially technology, in order to be fully present with God and others? Unplugging takes effort and intentionality, but is important for spiritual growth. God understands you may feel uncomfortable letting go of being “connected.” But trust that the most important use of your time is to be connected to him—your ultimate source of power.
