You are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26-28

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

Romans 12:4-5

UNITY IS NOT about everyone agreeing. It’s about learning how to take different opinions and direct them all toward a shared purpose and goal. God creates everyone differently; therefore we should expect differences of opinion. However, differences can be positive, such as the various parts making up Christ’s body. Unity usually becomes difficult to achieve when we’re already convinced that our opinion is the best. This mind-set keeps us from listening to new ideas that might actually inform our opinions for the better. Ask God to help you be open to others’ opinions so that you don’t miss out on the rich blessing of diversity.
