Unhappiness
unhappiness - Why am I often discontent when I have so much?
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
Hebrews 13:5
True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
1 Timothy 6:6-8
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.
Habakkuk 3:17-19
UNHAPPINESS SNEAKS into our lives for a variety of reasons. Sometimes present troubles overshadow the ways God has blessed us in the past. Conversely, sometimes dwelling in the past causes us to miss out on the blessings of today. Being unhappy or discontent can also come when we confuse wants with needs or when we compare ourselves and our possessions with others. In any case, choosing unhappiness robs us of the joys in life and in our relationships. To live a happy life and protect yourself from discontentment, keep your focus on God’s blessings, discipline your mind to find the good in every situation, and be thankful.
