specialness - If God loves everyone, how could I be special to him?

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Ephesians 1:5

The one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.”

Isaiah 43:1

Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.

Isaiah 49:15-16

EVERY PERSON on earth has a deep need to feel special. If others have failed to make us feel valuable, we can take comfort that the one who created us sees us as special. The early church father Augustine wrote, “God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.” Is it hard to believe that God loves you personally? God’s Word says that he adopts you, thinks precious thoughts about you, calls you by name, never forgets you, and even has your name written on his hands. Whenever you doubt you are special to God, remind yourself of these truths. Look for ways in which God might be showing his unique love for you today. It might be through a friend, an unexpected gift, or a moment where you feel his presence. Ask God to open your eyes to his extraordinary, personal love for you.
