Soul

soul - What does it mean to have a soul? How do I care for it?

Jesus replied, “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”

Matthew 22:37

Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.

Jeremiah 6:16

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength.

Psalm 23:1-3

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!

Psalm 42:11

THE SOUL encompasses the entire person. Like everything else in the world, it has become broken as a result of the Fall. Therefore, to care for the soul is to reunite all the broken pieces of the self with the Lord. We can do this in many ways, including praying, meditating on Scripture, singing songs of praise to God, being in nature, nurturing our bodies with good food, and creating spaces of intentional rest where we can just sit with the Lord. If you had to describe the state of your soul using one word, what would it be? Exhausted? Empty? Scattered? Satisfied? Pray about what places, people, or activities make your heart, mind, and body feel fully alive. Be intentional about doing these things as often as you can in order to care for your soul.
