Simplicity

simplicity - Do I need to simplify my life?

Jesus said, . . . “Life is more than food, and your body more than clothing.”

Luke 12:22-23

One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” The man answered, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”

Luke 10:25-28

This world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

1 John 2:17

WE OFTEN BELIEVE our success is measured by how full our closets are and how large our bank accounts are. However, God calls his followers to a different way of life—one that resists the “more is better” mentality to focus instead on our purpose for being on this earth. Simplifying our lives means letting go of things that complicate them in order to better focus on the kind of life Jesus says is most fulfilling. It’s not about getting rid of things but rather about experiencing freedom from being a slave to them. Which area in your life do you feel the Lord calling you to simplify? Your possessions? Expectations? Standards? Schedule? Commitments? Ask God to help you learn how to let go in order to experience freedom by focusing on what really matters.
