Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

Galatians 5:16-17

WE ALL WANT to be generous, caring more about others than ourselves. But even with the best of intentions, we usually prioritize our own wants and needs when we make decisions. God’s Word says two forces are constantly battling within us—the desire to serve ourselves and the desire to serve God. What can we do to win this battle? One of the best things is to invest our hearts in whatever God says is important. When we start investing our time, money, prayer, and resources in his priorities, we will begin caring about those things. This will not always feel easy. In fact, the more selfish we are, the harder it will be to put others first. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you take one small step each day toward investing in God’s Kingdom. Watch how your heart will slowly begin to long for that which will last for eternity.
