The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

Romans 8:3

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

1 John 4:10

IT CAN FEEL EXHAUSTING to continually sacrifice our time, desires, comfort, or finances for others. If we look only at the sacrifice involved, it will be impossible to have a good attitude. Sacrifice does not just involve giving things up; rather, it is a kind of substitution. We give up one thing to obtain something of greater value. Every time we sacrifice for another, our hearts are shaped more and more like God’s heart. He uses your sacrifices to shape you into a woman who is more loving, selfless, and generous. God sacrificed what was most precious to him, his Son, so that you would be saved from your sins and be made right with him. Anytime you make a sacrifice by giving something up for someone else, you are reminded, in some small way, of God’s greatest sacrifice of all.
